Wimbledon Introduces Video Challenge Technology in 2025.

Wimbledon tennis court with video review system

Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing replay systems.

Replay technology will be launched at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.

Competitors will gain the ability to question certain calls made by the official, mirroring the system already in use at both the US Open and the Aussie major.

The new system is slated for use on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles matches.

This move comes just a season following the All England Club rolled out ELC, which brought an end to the centuries-old role of line judges.

Reviewable Decisions

Players cannot to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the official to re-examine specific decisions, such as:

  • If a ball has bounced twice.
  • If a shot made contact with an opponent's racquet or person during play.
  • Possible hindrance end of a rally.

Importantly, there is no limit on the amount of challenges a player can initiate.

Case in Point

A recent example took place in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.

Draper admitted it was a tough call for the official, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."

The umpire watched a video and determined the player was guilty of interference, awarding the point to his opponent.

Broader Adoption

This technology aren't new for Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews implemented at every one of its events.

Further Updates

A further change at The Championships 2025 involves the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.

This addresses situations where the crowd have occasionally been unsure if a shot was out or in.

Finally, with exactly a century of days remaining until the start of the Championships, the AELTC have also revealed an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
