A man who contaminated sweets with tranquilliser and provided them to minors at a summer camp in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two children both nine and 10.
The accused was taken into custody after eight children and an older person became sick at the location in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Yet, he disputed one particular crime he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody ahead of a further hearing on 28 November.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, described the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She stated his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer camp which he operated.
The man engaged in a "candy game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor explained, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".
She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She stated the man had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in summer 2025.
The legal representative added: "This year his stepson had worries about what was going on, for good reason.
"They resolved" to have a look in the individual's items."
The prosecutor explained items including baby oil, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his worries.
She said the defendant went on to play the "candy game" with six youngsters that evening - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that stage," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating the police response of the situation.
The legal representative explained the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson notified the police a second time.
She stated the defendant then engaged in the "candy game" in a space of five children.
